Standing arm-in-arm with our armed forces

Skills learned in the forces are skills for life. David Murray, Senior Behavioural Safety Advisor and co-Chair of the Forces@BAM Inclusion Network shares how BAM is committed to supporting the forces community. 

Saturday 24 June 2023 marks national Armed Forces Day; a time of recognition and support for all those who make up the Armed Forces community, from serving soldiers, to families, reservists, cadets and veterans. 

At BAM, we #saluteourforces for all they do to protect and defend our nation. Approximately 8% of the UK population have a household member in the Forces, and that’s not including children, parents, uniformed services or cadets.

We are committed to supporting veterans and reservists, helping them to optimise and transfer their skills and explore civilian career opportunities. We guarantee that all veteran applicants will receive an invitation to interview for roles across BAM UK & Ireland.

Military members and reservists are a vibrant part of our BAM people culture which has culminated in the launch of Forces@BAM, our internal inclusion network, which incorporates a supplementary buddy system for veterans, service spouses and partners, and reservists. 

As part of our people-centric culture, we have a reservist policy in place, enabling Forces and Blue Light employees to attend training and service commitments. Reservists are offered an additional two weeks’ paid leave on top of annual holiday entitlement for training and duties.

We are committed to supporting the military community not just today, but every day.
