BAM starts work on Plymouth Community Diagnostic Centre
BAM has started work on a new community diagnostic centre for University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. Once complete, the new centre will provide 91,000 diagnostic tests each year in a highly sustainable new building.
Located in Plymouth city centre the Community Diagnostic Centre will allow high-quality diagnostic tests to be offered to people close to where they live, with city centre travel links making it easier to attend appointments.
The three-story centre will house facilities to deliver diagnostic tests including CT, MRI, X-Ray, ECHO, ECG, EEG, Ultrasound, blood pressure monitoring, lung function tests, audiology, and sleep investigations. Each floor will offer specific tests and will have a dedicated reception and waiting area.
BAM will construct the new centre with sustainability in mind, to reduce the impact of the building on the environment.

This project builds on our successful work with NHS Trusts in the region, including Royal Cornwall Hospital, North Devon District Hospital and Salisbury Hospital.”
Nicki Collas, Associate Director, Future Hospital Programme at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, said: “This new facility is key to our Future Hospital programme to bring care to people where they need it most. The city centre location will give better patient access, particularly for those living in the PL1 area. Our Future Hospital programme also includes a new Urgent Treatment Centre and Fracture Clinic on the Derriford Hospital site, together with our Urgent and Emergency Care facility which will further increase our capacity to treat patients.”
Councillor Mark Lowry, Cabinet Member for Finance and City Centre champion, said: “Change is now on the way. This gives me huge satisfaction to see these hoardings going up and pile drivers on site. This site is going to be transformed into a place where people can get tested for conditions to help them stay healthier for longer. It is being built right here in the West End of Plymouth – this is not only good news for the health of the people who live nearby but good for businesses as there will be more visitors to this part of Plymouth.
