BAM to lead the £100 million green transformation of Broadgate Tower
BAM has been appointed by British Land to lead the £100 million green transformation of Broadgate Tower near Liverpool Street. Built in 2008, the 34-storey building will undergo a major refresh to create modern workspaces designed to support users wellbeing and reduce the building’s environmental impact.
The work will transform Broadgate Tower into a highly desirable workplace, strategically located between the City of London's financial district and the creative, tech-driven hubs of Shoreditch and Old Street.
The development includes:
The scheme is targeting BREEAM Outstanding, alongside an EPC A rating and WELL certification pre-conditions. Circular economy principles will limit embodied carbon, with a hybrid pavilion structure incorporating reused steelwork and Cross Laminated Timber. The project also prioritises social value, working with the City of London to support employment and skills, including several apprenticeships, local procurement, and engagement with schools and colleges.
Kim Sides Executive Director - Construction, UK & Ireland, said:
“With this upgrade, Broadgate Tower will join the ranks of London’s most desirable work destinations with flexible, modern office space and outstanding facilities. We’re delighted to work with British Land to deliver its sustainability vision for this thriving neighbourhood. The project demonstrates our ongoing commitment to go ‘beyond the build’ and focus on creating long-lasting value for our clients and communities. BAM’s approach to environmental and social sustainability means the work will benefit not only the immediate area but also the broader community through creating work opportunities and adding green spaces.”
David Lockyer, Head of Development at British Land, commented: “We are delighted to be working with BAM to reposition Broadgate Tower, delivering high-quality, sustainable workspace to meet the modern day requirements of occupiers.
“Following our commitment to 2 Finsbury Avenue last year, this is another significant milestone for Broadgate and the City as we deliver another office tower into a market where high quality, modern space is in short supply but very high demand.”
