Supply chain

Our supply chain is much more than just the companies that provide materials, expert labour and services. Our performance depends directly on the people we work with. So we make huge efforts to choose the right companies, and to maintain and improve our relationships with them over time.

We categorise our supply chain partners, from those who’ve just started working with us right through to ‘Category one’: Companies that achieve the highest standards while always looking for continuous improvement.

A culture of partnership

For us, it’s all about focusing on shared goals…

  • To deliver exceptional, innovative and sustainable solutions to our clients, through the whole lifecycle of their projects
  • To develop long-term relationships with our supply chain that benefit us, benefit them and – most importantly – deliver great results for our clients
  • To manage risks and drive efficiencies – together – by using innovative solutions, sharing experiences and ideas, making health and safety our number one priority, and focusing on sustainability
  • To act fairly, treat others with respect and take our health, safety, quality and social responsibilities seriously
  • To use data-driven decision-making when it comes to managing performance
  • To ensure transparency and clarity, making sure everyone that works with us complies with relevant legislation, company and client policies.

The shared benefits of local sourcing

BAM is committed to using a local supply chain on our projects wherever possible. Working with companies close to home brings a range of benefits for everyone: local knowledge, local people, support for the local economy and a smaller carbon footprint. It also supports our sustainability and local procurement targets.

Over 80% of our subcontractors are Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and increasingly, Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises (VCSEs) play a key role in successful projects.

“We’ve built up many key relationships with our supply chain partners over the years. They’re vital to delivering our strategic objectives, and we’re looking forward to working even more closely and openly together to deliver these goals through consistent divisional agreements.”

What others say

“It’s essential that our supply chain actively supports our guiding principles – ‘Don’t Walk By’ and ‘Safe and Well’. It’s so important to look after the team’s physical safety, but also to ensure that we feel able to speak up and support one another when it comes to our colleagues’ mental health.”

Adam Walker
Commercial Manager – Sheephouse Wood BAT Mitigation Structure Project

“We’re focused on building long-term business relationships with our customers and our supply chain. That means being very clear about what we expect from our supply chain partners – as well as what they can expect of BAM when they work with us – so we can jointly deliver sustainable solutions.”

David McGowan
David McGowan Executive Director, Delivery Assurance, BAM UK & Ireland
