BAM becomes first principal contractor in Ireland to adopt the Pallet LOOP scheme
BAM has become the first principal contractor in Ireland to embrace the sustainable supply chain initiative via our partners CJ Sheeran, aiming to create a circular economy for pallets, significantly reducing waste and promoting greener practices.
Every year, the construction industry in Ireland uses several million pallets, many of which are discarded after just one use. The Pallet LOOP scheme is set to transform product delivery across the construction industry in Ireland by re-using these crucial but under-valued construction essentials. Pallets will be collected from building sites and merchants across Ireland so that they can be re-used on future sites, it is estimated that the scheme has already saved over 1,000 tonnes of carbon.
Not limited to reducing waste and cutting carbon, the scheme, which will be rolled out across all sites in Ireland, also offers significant financial benefits with pallet returns incentivised. A Payback of up to €4 / £4 for every green pallet recovered for reuse is offered, on top of the savings companies can make from not discarding pallets.
As the first principal contractor in Ireland to adopt this initiative, BAM Ireland’s Head of Purchasing, Martin O’Brien said:
“At BAM, sustainability is at the core of our operations. We’re excited to welcome the launch of The Pallet LOOP in Ireland through CJ Sheeran, which will reduce wastage and cut costs for our projects. As one of Ireland’s leading construction companies, this initiative marks a significant step forward in reducing waste and promoting the circular economy.”
Paul Lewis, Founder and MD of The Pallet LOOP, said:
“The launch of The Pallet LOOP in Ireland is aligned with the country’s climate action goals and the need to reduce waste using circular economy practices.”
