BAM Shortlisted for £9.1bn National Grid HVDC Framework to Power UK's Energy Future

BAM has been awarded a position on National Grid’s High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Major Works & Civils Framework. The shortlisting offers BAM the opportunity to tender for major UK HVDC converter station projects across the country, critical to delivering the UK’s net zero commitments and meeting future energy demands.

The framework, including converter stations like EGL3, EGL4 and LionLink will support the UK’s transition to a cleaner, greener future, create thousands of jobs, and position BAM at the forefront of transformative infrastructure projects.

This multi-billion-pound framework is part of the UK’s Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) programme and also includes NGV interconnectors, which sets out to connect 50 GW of offshore wind to the national grid by 2030.

HVDC systems are vital for enabling efficient long-distance transmission of green energy from renewable energy sources like offshore wind and solar, via underground and subsea cables.

The framework offers future opportunities for building more converter stations to enable increased electricity transmission capacity within the UK and to Europe. BAM has a solid track record of delivering HVDC projects in Scotland, Ireland and the Netherlands. The company is currently working on the UK’s single largest electricity transmission project ever, Eastern Green Link 2, which will transport enough electricity to power two million UK homes.
